Hong Kong - First stop on year long trip

First stop on our trip. Hong Kong. Sightseeing, sickness and New Year

We've arrived safely in Hong Kong following our 14 hour flight from London.

Our first few days were spent seeing the sites. We headed to the peak via the old funicular peak tram, Ocean World and saw the Big Buddha on Lantau island.

One night we ate at a local restaurant by the ferry wharf on Lantau Island near where we are staying. Some confusion over my order led to me trying octopus for the first time. A little chewy but ate most of it. Paid for it the following morning as I spent the majority of the day being sick.

Despite feeling unwell, it was New Years Eve, so had to celebrate. We went to an area called Lan Kwai Fong early for dinner as that was central. We were surprised to find the narrow streets had become busy with revellers when we left around nine. The party had definitely started.

In one of the bars we fell into conversation with an Irish guy and an Australia. The four of us decided to head down to the waterfront to watch the fireworks.

Unfortunately an on duty police officer informed us they had none at midnight. As midnight drew closer we jumped in a taxi to make a mad dash to a bar barely making it in time to hear the clock strike twelve.

Happy New Year!
